A different way to spend time together

Less screen time. More room to connect.

Choose a plant. Share a tool. Ask a colleague how their design is coming along. Sometimes a simple shared task opens the most natural conversation.

Thrill’s plant-based team building activities give staff a hands-on experience with something living. Participants explore texture, shape and composition while learning how to care for their creation. The workshop can be a welcoming conference breakout, a team celebration or the centrepiece of a staff wellbeing day.

For organisers, the choice starts with your purpose: an individual take-home piece, a collaborative workplace project or a plant workshop combined with a gentle movement or mindfulness session. Thrill helps shape the activity, materials and facilitation around your people and setting.

Create. Learn. Take care.

Six ways to get your team growing.

Choose a living creation or a practical plant skill. Materials, plant varieties and specialist delivery are confirmed for your date and location.

01 · MINIATURE LANDSCAPES

Terrarium workshops

Design a small planted landscape in glass, arranging foliage and decorative elements into a personal composition. Discuss a tropical or rainforest-inspired theme with plants suited to the container. Choose this for: a creative conference session and a living reminder to take away.

02 · COLOUR & FORM

Succulent arrangements

Explore contrasting shapes and textures in an open planter or suitable open terrarium. Learn why plant choice, drainage and watering matter. Choose this for: a compact desk or home creation matched to its future light conditions.

03 · HANDS-ON CRAFT

Kokedama moss balls

Shape and bind a planted moss-ball creation with specialist guidance. The making process invites patience, observation and a little help from a colleague. Choose this for: tactile craft with a distinctive living result.

04 · KNOTS & CONNECTION

Macramé plant hangers

Learn a sequence of knots and build a hanger for an agreed pot and plant. Participants can compare techniques, share progress and help one another through the pattern. Choose this for: a craft-led workshop with a botanical finish.

05 · CAREFUL DESIGN

Bonsai-inspired planting

Discuss a miniature planting workshop that introduces balance, proportion and ongoing care. A specialist-led introduction can help beginners approach the design thoughtfully. Choose this for: a more detailed creative brief; species and techniques are agreed in advance.

06 · USEFUL EVERYDAY SKILLS

Indoor plant care & propagation

Explore the needs of the selected plants, from placement and watering to suitable propagation methods. Bring common questions into a practical demonstration. Choose this for: staff who want the confidence to look after greenery at work or home.

The right plant for the right container. Humidity-loving foliage and succulents need different conditions. Thrill scopes the planting format accordingly and includes care guidance for the selected creation.

Something to nurture together

Take the idea beyond an individual pot.

SHARED GROWING SPACE

Workplace & community gardens

Discuss portable herb beds, vegetable planters or a suitable vertical garden. Teams can plan the layout, assemble the agreed system and plant together. Settle the location, permission, watering and care responsibilities before the build. A donation project starts with a recipient who wants and can maintain it.

PRACTICAL RESOURCE LEARNING

Worm farms & organic-waste workshops

Explore how a worm-farm project could fit your workplace or community setting. A specialist can introduce the system and its care requirements. Agree who will manage it and where it will live so the learning has a practical next step.

For a larger environmental project, explore Thrill’s tree-planting activities. Habitat and restoration work needs its own site, species and aftercare plan.

Make space in the day

Add a staff wellbeing experience.

A plant workshop can stand alone or become part of a more spacious conference or retreat agenda. Begin with a gentle arrival activity, spend time making together, then finish with conversation and reflection.

Choose the combination that suits your staff. Thrill confirms suitable facilitators, participation options and the environment for each session.

NOTICE & PAUSE

Mindfulness & quiet reflection

Add an optional guided attention or simple breathing-awareness session. Offer a quiet way to arrive, notice the surroundings and prepare for the hands-on activity, without requiring personal disclosure.

MOVE AT YOUR OWN PACE

Gentle stretch, yoga or Tai Chi

Discuss a movement session led by an appropriate specialist. Agree the pace, space, clothing and seated or alternative participation options before the event.

STEP OUTSIDE

Nature walks & shared conversation

Pair the workshop with a suitable guided walk or outdoor observation session. Confirm walking distance, surfaces, shade and a weather alternative. A relaxed shared break can round out the experience.

For a program centred on movement and mindfulness, explore Thrill’s conference wellbeing activities. For an outdoor-led day, see our nature experiences.

06

Take care beyond the day

Leave with agreed care guidance and transport arrangements. Assign responsibility for any shared workplace creation.

Thoughtful materials. Clear responsibilities.

Make the care part of the experience.

A living creation needs a suitable home. Discuss the light, available space and who will look after it before choosing the workshop. Plant care becomes a useful conversation about attention, shared responsibility and the conditions that help things grow.

For a workplace project, agree a simple care roster and a contact for questions. For individual creations, plan how people will carry them safely, particularly if delegates are travelling after the event.

Practical sustainability choices can include reusable containers, careful material quantities and a plan for leftover materials. A workshop can introduce these choices without claiming to be carbon-neutral, maintenance-free or an automatic ESG outcome.

Clear details. Confident organisation.

What Thrill helps you plan.

Start with the people, the place and the result. Thrill scopes facilitation, plant stock, containers, equipment, table protection, setup and pack-down. Your proposal also identifies venue responsibilities and any extras.

For indoor workshops, consider table space, water access, handwashing, room protection and an area to collect finished creations. Let us know about mobility, sensory or material-related needs so we can discuss suitable participation options.

For outdoor sessions, agree permissions, seating, shade and a weather plan. Large conferences may suit multiple workstations or smaller rotating groups; capacity depends on the selected format and facilitator coverage.

Tell us if delegates will be travelling interstate or overseas, or if a garden will be donated. Those details influence plant choices, packing, recipient arrangements and what can reasonably leave the venue on the day.

Plant team building FAQs

What are plant-based team building activities?

Here, plant-based means creating and learning with living plants. Options include terrariums, planted arrangements, kokedama, plant care, macramé hangers and shared garden projects. It does not refer to a food or dietary program.

Do we need gardening experience?

No previous gardening experience is needed for an introductory workshop. The facilitator explains the selected materials and techniques, with opportunities to ask questions and work at an appropriate pace.

Can we combine planting with staff wellbeing activities?

Yes. Discuss mindfulness, quiet reflection, gentle movement or a suitable nature walk as an optional part of your program. Facilitators, timings and participation options are confirmed in advance.

Are these clinical wellbeing or therapy sessions?

These are recreational and educational staff experiences focused on participation, connection and practical learning. They are not clinical mental-health treatment or a substitute for workplace support.

Will everyone take a creation home?

Individual workshops can be designed around a take-home piece. Shared projects stay at the agreed location. Confirm containers, packing, plant care and delegate travel arrangements before the event.

Can the workshop take place at our office or hotel?

A suitable office, hotel or conference space can work well. Thrill checks the practical requirements with you, including tables, water access, protection, setup time and pack-down.

How long does a workshop take, and how many people can join?

The scope varies with the selected activity and group. A simple planting session, a knotted hanger and a shared garden build need different amounts of time and support. Send your attendance and timetable for a suitable recommendation.

How much does a plant team building workshop cost?

Your quote reflects the plants, container quality, materials, facilitators, attendance, venue and optional additions. Request a proposal with your date, region, group size, budget and preferred format.

How is this different from Thrill’s creative activities page?

This page focuses on living creations, plant-care skills and optional wellbeing additions. The creative activities hub helps you compare a wider range of media, including art, food, construction, music and performance.
